How to Cook Quinoa

Quinoa is an ancient grain that was originally grown by the Incas in Peru. It is high in protein, iron and magnesium. It is a great high-protein food for vegetarians and people on a gluten-free diet. This whole grain is easy to prepare and can be a great way to have a healthy diet even while eating gluten-free. It is quick to make and has a great almost nutty flavor. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Measure out 1 cup of quinoa grain into fine mesh strainer/sieve. Rinse very thoroughly as there is some powder residue on the grain.

    2

Bring 1-3/4 cups of water to a boil, then add the 1 cup of quinoa.

    3

Simmer uncovered for 12 minutes. All of the liquid should be absorbed. This is similar to cooking rice.

    4

Fluff with a fork and serve warm, or can be served cold as a side salad when mixed with cherry tomatoes.

    5

This recipe will make 3-1/2 cups of quinoa.
