Diets for Osteoarthritis

According to the National Institute of Arthritis, osteoarthritis is a joint disease that results in the top layer of cartilage tissue between bones being worn away. Osteoarthritis patients usually have limited movement and frequent join pain. A diet for osteoarthritis can fight the condition and reduce pain associated with it.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

According to Glucosamine-osteoarthritis.org, consuming foods that are high in omega-3s will aid in the prevention of frequent flare-ups associated with osteoarthritis. Foods that are high in omega-3 include fish, flax seed, nuts, and certain vegetables. Omega-3 supplements also exist that are relatively inexpensive.

Osteoarthritis Breakfast

A tropical risotto is an appropriate osteoarthritis breakfast because it is created with nuts and fruits that are high in omega-3s. To make a tropical risotto breakfast you need 1 cup arborio rice, 2 cups water, one 15 oz. can coconut milk, one 8 oz. can cubed pineapple, 1\4 cup sliced almonds, 1\4 cup raisins, and 1 cup firm banana.

First, boil the rice in a soup pan on high heat. Once the water is boiling, turn the stove down to medium-low. As the rice is boiling, slowly add pineapple juice to the pan. After the pineapple juice is completely mixed, add the can of coconut milk. After that, add the rest of the ingredients. After 2 to 3 minutes, the mixture should be creamy and ready to serve! This osteoarthritis breakfast tastes great either warm or cold. This tropical risotto recipe is courtesy of WHFoods.com.

Osteoarthritis Lunch

Kale salad is a superb osteoarthritis lunch because of the omega-3s that the kale plant and olive oil contain. To create a kale salad you need 1 lb. kale, 2 tsp. lemon juice, 1 medium clove of pressed garlic, 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil, and 3 1\2 Tbsp. of agar.

First, chop the garlic and let it sit for 5 minutes. Next, fill a steamer with 2 inches of water and let it boil. Next, cut the kale plant into 1\4-inch leaves. When the water comes to a boil add the kale and let it steam for 5 minutes. After that, transfer everything onto a plate. You can then add the rest of the ingredients if you want to enjoy your salad with a Mediterranean dressing. This osteoarthritis lunch is courtesy of WHFoods.com.

Osteoarthritis Dinner

Sauted greens make an excellent osteoarthritis dinner because vegetables contain high levels of omega-3s. For this osteoarthritis dinner you need 1 cup sliced leeks, 4 cups chopped kale, 1\4 cup chicken or vegetable broth, 3 medium pressed garlic cloves, 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice, 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil, and salt and pepper.

First, heat the broth in a 10-inch stainless steel skillet. Next, saut the sliced leeks in the broth for 5 minutes. After that, add another 1\4 cup of broth. Cover the mixture and let it simmer on low heat for 7 to 8 minutes and you're done!
